Wizz Air Holdings chief executive József Váradi has said that one of the reasons contributing to the group's decision to nix the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi unit earlier this year was the pro-Etihad Airways bias of the local regulator. "The rule of law and the regulatory system should be predictable. That’s not necessarily the case in Abu Dhabi, and we felt that the system became overly biased towards Etihad," he said. However, Váradi also listed a litany of other issues, including airspace closures in the region, lack of traffic rights for certain key markets, and harsh conditions affecting the airline's Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines.
