Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) is reportedly in talks with Airbus to defer the deliveries of around 100 aircraft due between now and 2030 until the next decade, Bloomberg reported citing internal sources.

According to the report, chief financial officer Ian Malin said at an investor event in Singapore that the talks were almost concluded.

The airline refused to comment on the article.

ch-aviation data shows that the LCC has an order book of 235 A321-200NX and forty-two A321-200NY(XLR)s directly from Airbus. It confirmed that it will convert at least some of its XLRs into standard-range units following the closure of the Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, which was earmarked to be a major operator of the extended-range variant.

Despite the reported deferral talks, Wizz Air continues to take new aircraft. Since the beginning of September, it took two A321-200NX for its Hungarian AOC, one A321-200NY(XLR) and two A321-2000NX for Wizz Air Malta, and one A321-200NY(XLR) for Wizz Air UK.

The move comes as Wizz Air is restructuring its operations to rein in costs. Following the winding down of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, a joint venture with the local government, the airline announced a renewed focus on its core markets in Central and Eastern Europe. Nonetheless, the airline remains profitable - it posted a net profit of EUR213.9 million euros (USD247.8 million) for the year ended on March 31, 2025, with a 21.5% EBITDA margin.
