Airlines for Australia has proposed closing Sydney Kingsford Smith’s control tower at night to allow for two overnight air traffic controllers to move to daytime shifts and help ease staffing shortages. The airport already has a 2300L to 0600L (1300Z-2000Z) curfew, but a lack of on-duty air traffic control could cause issue to flights dealing with emergencies or those carrying medical patients, which are exempt from the curfew under the current rules.
