Air Sénégal (HC, Dakar Blaise Diagne International) has committed to ordering nine B737-8s with a further six options directly from Boeing to support its regional and international expansion.
The announcement made during the Dubai Airshow did not detail the planned delivery dates or the configuration of the aircraft.
Air Sénégal is planning to use the B737-8s to support its network expansion, including new services to secondary cities in Europe. Its current fleet comprises two Let 410s, two ATR72-600s, and two inactive A330-900Ns. Following a lease dispute with Carlyle Aviation Partners earlier this year and the ensuing repossession of two A320-200s and two A321-200s, it no longer has any in-house narrowbody aircraft, instead relying on two A320-200s wet-leased from GetJet Airlines.
The Senegalese government together with the airline's new management have been working to revamp the fleet and network. The authorities recently earmarked XOF66 billion CFA francs (USD117 million) for the acquisition of new aircraft.
