Antin Infrastructure Partners, a private equity firm focused on infrastructure, will acquire a "significant majority" stake in Swiftair (WT, Madrid Barajas) through its Mid Cap Fund I vehicle. The current owner and chief executive officer, Salvador Moreno, will retain his position and a "significant minority" stake.
The value of the transaction and exact shareholding structure have not been disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025.
"With Antin’s support, we will be able to accelerate our strategy, notably continuing to optimise and invest in our fleet, and further consolidate our market leadership, both organically and through new acquisitions," Moreno said.
The Spanish cargo carrier currently operates a diversified fleet of 48 in-house freighters and quick-change aircraft, ranging from small turboprops such as ATR42-300(F)s to narrowbodies like the A321-200(P2F), the B737-800(BDSF), and the B757-200(PCF). It also wet-leases two B737-800(SF)s from Compass Cargo Airlines and one ATR72-200(F) from Bridges Air Malta. Subsidiaries Swiftair Hellas and Cygnus Air operate five E120 freighters and five B757-200(PCF)s, respectively.
Swiftair's single-largest ACMI customer is DHL Express (through EAT Leipzig), although the airline also operates for FedEx, United Parcel Service, La Poste, and other companies.
