Air Ghana (GO, Accra) has launched a recruitment drive as the cargo carrier looks to enter passenger operations in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to ch-aviation research.
Although no official announcement has been made, the airline is recruiting for sales, ticketing, and call centre staff in several advertisements on social media. ch-aviation has reached out to the company for comment.
In a statement shared with news site Aviation Ghana, the company confirmed that it is in the "intermediate stage of expanding its operations to passenger services, with a goal of launching flights towards the end of 2025, subject to the conclusion of all regulatory and operational requirements." Further information would be released at the appropriate time, it added.
According to Aviation Ghana, the airline plans to operate a B737.
The cargo carrier currently operates regional night cargo and courier services on behalf of DHL International with one B737-400(F) leased from Swiftair (WT, Madrid Barajas) (at Madrid Barajas since July 14). It also wet-leases one B737-400(SF) from Swiftair and one B737-800(BCF) from AirExplore (ED, Bratislava), according to ch-aviation data.
Ghana currently has two home-based passenger carriers, Africa World Airlines and PassionAir. The government plans to revive a national airline and has established a task team to write a business plan and formulate an operational framework. This follows a series of unsuccessful attempts since the collapse of Ghana International Airlines in 2010.
As previously reported, in 2024 only 2.15% of Ghanaians travelled by air, highlighting significant room for growth. By 2028, the projection is for that figure to rise to 15%, underscoring the large untapped potential in Ghana’s aviation market.
