JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda) has announced it will introduce the E190-E2 as the successor to the E170/E190 regional fleet operated by regional subsidiary J-Air (Nagoya Komaki), placing an order for twenty-six E190-E2s (16 firm orders and 10 options), with deliveries scheduled to start in fiscal year 2029 (ending March 31, 2030).

The regional jets will support J-Air's domestic network from Osaka Itami, from which it operates regional services across Japan.

JAL said the fleet renewal forms part of the JAL Group Management Vision 2035, which prioritises the long-term sustainability of domestic air services and their role in supporting regional economies.

"The introduction of the state-of-the-art E190-E2 aircraft is positioned at the core of JAL's long-term strategy. Well matched to future market demand and environmental trends, this fleet decision will enable sustainable domestic business operations while continuing to drive regional revitalisation," the airline said in a statement.

The E190-E2s will be powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engines and have a typical seating capacity of 97 to 114 passengers.

According to ch-aviation data, J-Air currently operates an Embraer fleet of 32 jets, including eighteen E170s and fourteen E190s.
