ITA Airways (AZ, Rome Fiumicino) will extend its operation of the Alghero-Milan Linate public service obligation (PSO) route until January 31, 2027, the government of Sardinia announced on October 6, 2026. This comes after the administration received no bids for a tender issued on July 31. ITA's willingness to continue serving the route guarantees that there will be no lapse in connectivity before the start of the next contract, due to begin on February 1, 2027. Sardinia stated that it will now proceed with drafting a new tender. The previous tender was valued at a maximum of EUR37.7 million euros (USD42.2 million), and was set to expire on March 24, 2029.
