Aerolíneas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery) has suspended operations with eight B737-800s fitted with CFM International CFM56 engines after flight AR1526, operated by LV-FSK (msn 41562), experienced a technical failure shortly after take off from Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery on October 15, 2025.
The suspension allows Aerolíneas’ maintenance team to focus solely on the engines, not other aircraft systems. In a statement, the carrier said CFM International recommended inspection of these engines after 17,200 flight cycles, but none of the impacted units were near that threshold, so it has requested a technical opinion from the engine maker and regional operators using similar equipment that have faced similar incidents.
The company operates a fleet of twenty-eight B737-800s. Aerolíneas Argentinas confirmed that the aircraft currently grounded in the wake of the incident are LV-FQY (msn 39436), LV-FQZ (msn 41563), LV-FSK (msn 41562), LV-FUA (msn 40548), LV-FUB (msn 39893), LV-FUC (msn 41347), LV-FVM (msn 41329), and LV-FVO (msn 41356).
Flight AR1526 was heading to Córdoba International when the incident occurred. The pilots safely diverted to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini after the engine failure.
The rest of Aerolíneas' fleet comprises five B737-700s, thirteen B737-8s, two B737-800(SF)s, and twenty-four E190s.
