Sunrise Airways (S6, Port au Prince) and the Haitian government have reached an agreement for the carrier to resume its scheduled domestic flights to and from Port au Prince on June 12, 2025, after months of halting operations due to the gang violence in the capital city.

The company will resume flights to Cap Haitien, Les Cayes, and Jérémie. It requested from the government “the implementation of an additional insurance solution” to ensure a minimum acceptable level of coverage for potential human casualties and material damages in the event of an incident or crash, whether directly or indirectly linked to Haiti’s volatile security situation, it said in a statement.

The Haitian state will provide a USD11 million supplementary coverage in the form of a financial guarantee which would be activated, only if needed, to directly compensate potential victims and their beneficiaries, and for material damages, as a complement to the compensation paid by the airline’s insurance provider.

Sunrise Airways’ fleet comprises one BAe Jetstream 32 and four E120s. The Haitian carrier has two subsidiaries, Sunrise Dominicana (D6, Santo Domingo Las Américas) and start-up Sunrise Airways Dominica (Roseau Canefield), which is set to debut operations in July.
