Following a hiatus of 11 years, Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) has resumed scheduled seasonal flights between Helsinki Vantaa and Agadir Al Massira in Morocco, the airline confirmed to ch-aviation.

The resumption of the Morocco route also means the return of scheduled flights to Africa (excluding the Canary Islands) for the Finnish flag carrier since it suspended its services to Hurghada, Egypt in 2020 during COVID-19, a spokesperson confirmed. "We last operated to Agadir as a charter flight in winter 2014-2015," she said.

"We evaluate our network continuously and make necessary changes based on several factors such as demand, seasonality, profitability, and efficient use of fleet and operational resources. Our goal is to maintain a flight programme that is appropriate for customer needs and at the same time economically sustainable. When necessary, we make changes to the route network for commercial, operational, or network optimisation reasons," she added.

According to ADS-B data, Finnair is operating A321-200 OH-LZG (msn 5758) on the route. The company-owned,13.1-year-old airframe is fitted with 209 seats in a single cabin layout. It was delivered new to Finnair in 2013 and is one of fourteen A321-200s in the fleet.

Finnair's fleet totals 83 aircraft (including wet leases), comprising five A319-100s, ten A320-200s, fourteen A321-200s, five A330-300s, and eighteen A350-900s. The fleet also includes twelve E190s, twelve ATR72-500s and one ATR72-600, operated by NoRRA Nordic Regional Airlines (N7, Helsinki Vantaa).

Finnair also wet leases two A321-200s from Iberia and Iberia Express (I2, Madrid Barajas), respectively, and four B737-800s from Jettime, according to ch-aviation data.
