A Florida federal jury has awarded USD116.8 million to instrumentation and air data system developer Aerosonic, after finding eVTOL manufacturer Joby Aviation breached a confidentiality agreement covering air data probes. Aerosonic, a subsidiary of aerospace manufacturer TransDigm, sued Joby in March 2025, alleging the company used proprietary designs and test data to develop in-house probes.
The jury awarded USD68.6 million for breach of a 2021 nondisclosure agreement, USD29.9 million for Aerosonic's losses and Joby's gains, and USD18.3 million in exemplary damages after finding the misappropriation malicious. The verdict rejected Joby's arguments that Aerosonic waived protection for information obtainable through purchased probes and breached the NDA by selling defective probes. A Joby spokesperson said the company had asked the court to overturn the verdict and would “vigorously pursue all available post-trial and appellate remedies”.
