Nigeria's six northeastern states have secured NGN15 billion naira (USD11.3 million) towards establishing the proposed North-East Air Shuttle, with the regional governors now formally resolving to launch the carrier.

The North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF), comprising the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, announced the decision in a statement issued following an October 3, 2026, meeting in Maiduguri.

The funding represents a partial contribution to the project. In January, the governors had outlined a NGN30 billion (USD22.6 million) funding plan, with each of the six states expected to contribute NGN5 billion (USD3.7 million).

Gombe was the first state to publicly confirm its contribution, approving NGN5 billion in December 2025 to acquire two aircraft for the proposed airline.

At the time, the states said the carrier would improve intra-regional connectivity, provide more reliable links with other parts of Nigeria, and support economic development. The project dates back to 2020 and has been positioned as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and economic integration across the region.

Details of the aircraft to be operated, proposed routes, and a regulatory timetable have not yet been disclosed.

ch-aviation has contacted the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for more information. In January, the regulator said it had not received any licence applications from the proposed carrier.
