United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) has revealed that it will begin operating its A321-200NY(XLR) aircraft on select domestic routes in September 2026 before transitioning the type to international services on December 1, with flights from Washington Dulles to Amsterdam Schiphol and Dublin International.

Later, between April and June 2027, United will launch XLR flights to five new European destinations: Ibiza, Luxembourg, Marseilles, Toulouse Blagnac, and Valencia Manises.

On April 2, United will launch a daily service to Luxembourg from New York Newark. This will be followed by daily Washington Dulles-Toulouse flights from April 26, 4x weekly Newark-Ibiza and Newark-Valencia services from May 31, and daily Newark-Marseilles flights from June 4.

On all five new routes, United will be the only US carrier to operate nonstop flights to these European cities.

Earlier this year, United Airlines took delivery of its first A321-200NY(XLR), from an order for fifty XLRs placed directly with Airbus. Each aircraft will offer 32 premium seats, 16 more than the B757-200s the type is replacing.

Ljubljana goes transatlantic

Alongside the five new routes to be operated with its XLRs, United has announced five other routes to new destinations: San Francisco-Okinawa Naha, Newark-Ljubljana, Newark-Olbia, Newark-Catania, and Newark-Terceira.

In the case of Ljubljana, this will be the airport's first transatlantic service.

United is also adding new international routes to destinations it already serves from three of its hubs: Los Angeles International-Osaka Kansai, Washington-Milan Malpensa, and Denver International-Paris CDG.
