The Latvian government is in talks with an unnamed strategic investor for airBaltic (BT, Riga), Prime Minister Andris ‌Kulbergs said. "It is a matter of this summer to execute. We have to go through necessary steps in order to make the company ready for a strategic investor," he explained. The struggling carrier, in which the government owns an 88.38% stake, is planning to ask its bondholders for short-term financing during an August 3 meeting. Kulbergs previously said airBaltic would need as much as EUR150 million euros (USD170 million) in fresh capital to survive the upcoming winter season. The airline's management is drawing up a new business plan, intended to make the company more attractive to investors.
