Commissioner Roy Daggy of Papua New Guinea's Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has urged the government to authorise it to implement either direct price controls or a price monitoring regime. The watchdog's inquiry reportedly found a lack of transparency in pricing structures and service efficiency, despite limited cooperation from the National Airports Corporation and Department of Transport. Daggy consequently described the current aviation duopoly comprising Air Niugini (PX, Port Moresby) and PNG Air (CG, Port Moresby) as "unfavourable" to consumers. The ICCC currently lacks any regulatory oversight of airfares.
