The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced on December 10, 2025, that it will eliminate all air transport taxes among its member states in a bid to reduce high air travel costs in the region. These include ticket, tourism, solidarity, and foreign travel taxes. The directive, initially approved in December 2024, will take effect from January 1, 2026. It additionally includes provisions to reduce passenger and security charges by 25%. Airlines set to be affected by these measures include Air Peace, Air Sénégal, ASKY Airlines, Air Côte d'Ivoire, Africa World Airlines, and Cabo Verde Airlines, among others.
