Abra Group, owner of avianca airlines, GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes, Wamos Air, and NG Servicios Aéreos, is considering smaller aircraft for its carriers, such as Embraer regional jets. However, any potential order will not be placed simply to boost capacity, according to chief executive officer Adrian Neuhauser. .
“We are in no rush to add a new type of aircraft to the fleet just to increase capacity. If we add a new type, it would be to serve markets that, otherwise, we would not be able to serve, either physically or economically,” Neuhauser explained when asked about ongoing reports that GOL could add E2s or Airbus A220 jets during a press conference in Bogotá.
This year, Abra placed an additional order for fifty A320neo aircraft for avianca, and also entered into an operating lease agreement with Avolon to dry-lease up to seven A330-900Ns, which, according to reports, will be placed at GOL Linhas Aéreas allowing it to potentially serve Europe. If this takes place, it would be a shift in GOL’s business strategy that, for years, centred on operating the Boeing B737.
Asked about these rumours, GOL told ch-aviation it “continually evaluates opportunities to expand its regional, domestic, and international network. For now, there is no confirmation of any flights beyond the airports where the company already operates or has announced. Any updates will be communicated to the market in due course.”
