Madagascar Airlines (MD, Antananarivo) has announced that the World Bank, satisfied with the progress of the airline's "Phenix 2030" turnaround plan, has agreed to provide a USD40 million second tranche of a USD65 million financing package. USD25 million was provided in September 2024 as part of the World Bank's Economic Transformation for Inclusive Growth Project (PIC3) for Madagascar. The Malagasy government reaffirmed its full support for the airline and is working to finalise the remaining 20% of conditions for the financial support, which should be met by the end of November.
Madagascar Airlines anticipates a positive operating result for the current fiscal year, a first for the carrier for many years. The company's current debts, primarily state-owned, will be consolidated into its share capital, strengthening the group's financial structure.
