Somon Air (SZ, Dushanbe) has “committed” to placing an order for ten B737-8s and four B787-9s, which will enable its international network expansion, Boeing has announced.
If placed, this would be Somon Air’s first-ever widebody order, signed during the C5+1 Summit this week in Washington, D.C. The narrowbody order, meanwhile, would allow the company to modernise its all-B737 fleet, currently comprising four B737-800s, two B737-900ERs, and one B787-8(BBJ).
Earlier in the year, Somon Air signed an agreement to purchase two B737-8s from DAE Capital, with deliveries to take place in 2026.
Abdulkosim Valiev, CEO of Somon Air, said that the latest investment will introduce new flexibility that will allow the carrier to adjust its fleet further based on market demand. In addition, the company is looking to launch new intercontinental routes from Dushanbe with the B787-9s.
Central Asia competitor Air Astana also announced an order today, for up to fifteen B787-9s.
