American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced it will cut a number of management and support roles, mainly at its Dallas/Fort Worth headquarters, the Associated Press news agency reported.

The “small” headcount reduction is part of an ongoing effort to calibrate its workforce to its current needs, it said in a statement, optimising “our performance and [becoming] even more efficient across the organisation.”

The airline did not disclose the number of jobs that will be impacted. “We remain focused on continuing to invest in areas that support American’s long-term business objectives, and these targeted investments will be made thoughtfully to position our airline for continued success,” it said.

American Airlines posted a USD114 million net loss for the third quarter of 2025. For the year so far, it recorded a net profit of USD12 million, down 95.1% from the profit it gained in the first three quarters of 2024, at USD256 million.
