Lumiwings (L9, Foggia Gino Lisa) has been left without any aircraft after a London judge ordered the carrier to return its only E195 to lessor Azorra, according to ch-aviation research.
"We confirm we have obtained the assistance of the English court to ground an aircraft which was previously on lease to Lumiwings. This legal action arises from Lumiwings’ ongoing operation of the aircraft after the leasing was terminated. While initiating litigation against a customer is never our preferred course of action, we must act to protect our interests and uphold the integrity of our agreements," a spokeswoman for Azorra told ch-aviation.
This follows a remote hearing on October 10 when the London Circuit Commercial Court, sitting as part of the King’s Bench Division, ruled in favour of Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) acting as trustee for Azorra. The case is Wilmington Trust SP Services (Dublin) Limited v. Lumiwings Anonymi Aeroporiki Etaireia S.A., case number LM-2025-000293.
ADS-B data shows that SX-LWD (msn 19000391) has been grounded at Foggia Gino Lisa since September 26. The aircraft had been operating flights to Milan Linate and Turin Caselle for the past three years under Italy’s regional public service obligation (PSO) scheme, known locally as "territorial continuity".
Azorra had applied to the English court to ground the aircraft on September 25, citing as reason Lumiwings’ continued use of the aircraft after lease termination.
According to ch-aviation data, the ruling leaves Lumiwings without a functioning fleet. Its only other aircraft, B737-700 SX-LWC (msn 30659) leased from Deucalion Aviation, has been stored at Castellón de la Plana Costa Azahar in Spain since October 2024, according to ADS-B data.
Italian news site FoggiaToday reported the decision also effectively ends Lumiwings’ operations from Foggia Gino Lisa and resolves weeks of uncertainty in Italy, where local authorities had been awaiting clarity on the future of scheduled services from the airport.
AeroItalia (XZ, Rome Fiumicino) is planning to take over Foggia’s incentive programme for scheduled routes.
ch-aviation has contacted Lumiwing for comment.
