Pan American Global Holdings LLC and AVi8 Air Capital have formally initiated a certification process with the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the first step in launching a Part 121 scheduled carrier and resurrecting the Pan Am brand.

Once certified, Pan Am would be headquartered at Miami International and operate a fleet of Airbus aircraft, the companies said in a statement.

Back in June, Craig Carter, CEO of Pan American Global Holdings, said that the company had no routes, aircraft, or launch timelines at that stage. Avi8 Air Capital will help to evaluate market dynamics, fleet strategy, operational infrastructure, and financial planning “to determine the best and highest use of the Pan Am name for relaunch as a scheduled carrier.”

Pan American Global Holdings acquired the Pan Am brand in 2023.

Since Pan Am (1927) went out of business in 1991, a number of attempts have been made to relaunch the iconic brand, the last one failing to do so in 2014, as Pan American Airways (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson), ch-aviation reported at the time.
