Air Tindi (8T, Yellowknife) has announced the suspension of its service between Yellowknife and Wha Ti/Lac La Martre leaving the First Nations community in the Northwest Territories unserved by scheduled commercial carriers.

Local broadcaster Cabin Radio reported that Air Tindi is suspending the 3x weekly service from October 12 “until further notice.”

Explaining the reasons behind the decision to drop the route, Air Tindi’s president Chris Reynolds said the volume of passengers and freight had dropped significantly since its opening four years ago.

“We’ve lost a quarter of a million dollars trying to basically subsidise the route over the last four years,” he said, adding that the carrier can no longer continue doing that. “Unless something changes, it is suspended for now.”

According to ch-aviation data, Air Tindi’s fleet comprises seven DHC-6-300s, twelve DHC-7-100s, one wet-leased DHC-8-300, two Beech B300s, three B200GTs, and one Cessna 208.
