The United States Department of State announced on September 20 that it will provide, in coordination with Taiwan, USD8.3 million to Air Marshall Islands (CWM, Majuro) to modernise its ageing fleet. The grant forms part of the country's aid package extended to the Marshall Islands, which spans defence, infrastructure, and humanitarian support.
No further details were disclosed about the fleet modernisation grant, which was announced following the recent bilateral discussions in Majuro. ch-aviation has contacted the airline for comment.
ch-aviation data shows that Air Marshall Islands currently operates a fleet of four aircraft, two DHC-8-100s and two Do228-212s, with an average age of 35.4 and 33.3 years, respectively.
In December 2024, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te promised to provide a preferential loan to the archipelagic country for the expansion of Air Marshall Islands' fleet. A month prior, the airline placed an order for two Cessna 408s, which were expected to arrive in December 2025 and January 2026.
The carrier operates domestically to 23 destinations with 31 routes, mainly from its Majuro hub, according to ch-aviation schedules data.
The United States maintains close military cooperation with the Marshall Islands and has a sizeable presence in the country, including a major missile defence range headquartered at Kwajalein Island.
