Avelo Airlines (XP, Burbank) is interested in adding more aircraft to its fleet despite recent cuts and the imminent closure of its Burbank base amid controversy over its decision to operate deportation flights for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In a statement to FlightGlobal, the US carrier said it is “working with several lessors and companies to acquire more aircraft for our fleet,” and while there are no immediate or finalised agreements, it continues to grow towards that goal.
ch-aviation data shows Avelo’s fleet comprises eight B737-700s and fourteen B737-800s. It leases its fleet from nine lessors: AerCap, Aero Capital Solutions, Aviation Capital Group, Carlyle Aviation Partners, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Elevate Capital Partners, FTAI Aviation, Genesis Aircraft Services, and Macquarie AirFinance.
Avelo Airlines is closing its Burbank base on December 2, citing troubling financial results in the airport. Instead, it is focusing on growing its bases on the US East Coast, where there is “significantly more opportunity to continue our path to sustainable cash flow generation,” it told the specialised media outlet.
Other bases for Avelo Airlines are at Concord, NC, Hartford Bradley, Lakeland, New Haven, Orlando International, Raleigh/Durham, Santa Rosa, CA, and Wilmington New Castle.
