Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) plans to base an A321-200 at Bucharest Baneasa in October 2025, doubling the number of its aircraft stationed at the airport. The low-cost carrier has announced nine routes out of Baneasa and six new routes out of Bucharest Henri Coanda.
It will relocate existing routes connecting Bucharest Henri Coanda with Athens, Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg, CH, Frankfurt Hahn, Memmingen, and Nice to Bucharest Baneasa. Additionally, Wizz Air plans to add new services from Bucharest's secondary airport to Barcelona El Prat, Brussels Charleroi, Milan Bergamo, and Turin Caselle.
However, Bucharest Henri Coanda will ultimately see its network grow, as Wizz Air intends to launch new routes from there to Bratislava, Brindisi, Cologne/Bonn, Gdansk, Pescara, and Porto in October.
The airline has not disclosed whether the A321-200 destined for the Baneasa base comes from the fleet of Wizz Air Malta or the Hungarian AOC. ch-aviation reached out to Wizz Air for clarification. The company inaugurated its Baneasa base in April 2025, launching operations with a Wizz Air Malta A321-200NX.
According to ch-aviation data, Wizz Air and its subsidiaries will operate seven routes out of Baneasa during the 2025 IATA summer season, and the low-cost carrier will connect Henri Coanda with 60 destinations.
In related news, Wizz Air plans to open its first maintenance centre in Romania in collaboration with Romaero. It will be stationed at Romaero's facility at Bucharest Baneasa and is expected to become operational in October. Wizz Air will be able to conduct heavy and light maintenance at the new service centre, the airline announced.
